Ashley Nicole

INTRODUCING
ASHLEY NICOLE

STANDARD TWEEP TATTLER INTERVIEW:

1)  Where do you live?

I live in a small town in West Virginia.

2)  What is the first thing you remember writing?

When I was in about fourth grade I wrote a short story unrelated to schoolwork. It was sort of my the Shiloh books about the beagle except it was a little girl that saved a cheetah from a hunter. I showed it to my teacher who then told me it was good to write outside of class but the story was silly.

3)  Why do you write?

I write because I enjoy it. Words come out more beautifully on paper than when I speak. I also have all these crazy ideas for stories in my head that want to be brought to life.

4)  Have you published any of your work?

Not yet.

5)  What are you currently writing?

Currently I’m revising my debut novel that just came back from beta readers. It is a NA dark angel fantasy that follows lovers, Kathryn and Scott, as they try to stop emotion manipulating murderous angels from enslaving humans in their afterlife.

6)  Are you currently querying?

No, I’ve decided to go the self-publishing route.

7)  Finish this sentence (three lines or less):
It was a dark and stormy night..

or at least I think it was night. In my windowless room it was hard to keep track of time or even days. The rattling chains around me in the darkness accompanied the pounding of the rain outside as we all awaited our fate.

8)  Which activities do you like to participate in, in the Twitter writing community (VSS365, etc.)?

VSS365 is one I participate in daily. I have tried Satsplat and some others as well.

9)  Do you have any formal training/education for writing?

While in college I took every creative writing course offered and started a creative writing club on campus.

10)  Do the people in your life know that you write?

Absolutely, and it’s because of their encouragement and support that I keep writing.

11)  Tell me about the people in your life. Family? Pets?

My mom, dad, two sisters, and brother all live close so I spend time with them often. I live with my boyfriend who is my personal tech support. He works in IT so he has helped with my website, blog, social medias, book cover, formatting, everything. We have one silver tabby kitten named River Song.

12)  Where do you wish your writing to take you?

Like every other author I would love for my writing to take off and bring in money to help me with other financial life goals, but it’s not why I write, and not achieving that level of greatness won’t stop me from writing. What I would call success for me personally is if I can make enough money on one book to pay for the next. Mostly, though, I just want people to enjoy my stories.

13)  What did you expect when you joined the Twitter writing community? Did it turn out as expected?

Joining the Writing Community on Twitter is the first time I’d ever been on Twitter. I was afraid I wouldn’t learn how to navigate it and since I was unpublished I was afraid I wouldn’t make any friends.
The complete opposite is what I found. The Writing Community has been the most welcoming and helpful platform I’ve been on. There’s always kindness and confidence boosters. Even with this interview I am doing now. I didn’t expect any of this, but I’m sure glad I found it.

14)  Where do you write?

I don’t have a specific place I write. Sometimes I’m in my study, sometimes at work, I even enjoy writing outside by the river. I have an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard and it goes everywhere with me so when I get the chance to write, I write.

15)  How much time do you dedicate to writing, weekly?

Dull answer, but it depends on the week. I try to write at least an hour each weekday morning before work, and I write for a half hour on my lunch break. In the evenings sometimes I write for 2-3 hours and sometimes I don’t get any extra time in. Weekends I can get in tons a writing hours to make up for the week.

16)  Do you have other talents?

Depends on what you call talents! I can solve the Rubiks Cube in under 2 minutes. I do card tricks and other sleight of hand magic tricks.

17) CHOOSE ONE:

  1. I do not mind when other writers ask for advice.
  2. I’d rather keep to myself!
I do not mind when other writers ask for advice. I write blog posts on writing tips because I believe when I learn something I should share that with other writers and my DMs are always open. If I’m asked a question I can’t answer fully or confidently I refer them to another writer who I know could better help them.

Ashley Nicole has always had a passion for writing. Despite being visually impaired she has a steamer trunk filled to the brim with notebooks from her middle and high school days loaded with ideas she is now revisiting for her novel inspirations.
Currently, she resides in West Virginia with her tech savvy boyfriend and works as a Veterinary Assistant for a local animal hospital. Her dark fantasy debut novel is coming soon and she is excited to share her imagination with the world.
